Children Play Near Corrosive Wastes in St. Elmo

Another former employee of HydroVac owner Bill Foxworth has come forward to tell the Chattanooga Fax about serious violations in handling hazardous waste in Chattanooga.

Greg Krum, a former Sales Manager for Foxworth's Fox Waste company, says some of the toxic materials taken during the EPA Superfund cleanup of Chattanooga Creek were taken by Foxwaste to 56th Street in St. Elmo, a residential neighborhood. The waste from the cleanup was stored in 300 fifty-five gallon drums, he said.

Another employee observed children playing on the containers of waste, which were corroding on the outside from the hazardous substances.

They were eaten up with corrosion,ä said Krum. ãThose people down there never even knew it. He had all sorts of contiminated stuff down there.

Krum also informed CFax that Foxworth never provided the required 40 hours of training mandated for their 17 drivers to learn how to handle hazardous waste.

Another former employee showed CFax a Certificate of Completion signed by Foxworth showing the employee had successfully Completed 40-hr Hazardous Waste Worker Training. The employee says he had zero training and concurs with Krum that his colleagues were also untrained.

Krum says those same employees dumped hazardous waste in illegal landfills and also mixed various wastes together , whether blue, black, bubbling liquid, etc., regardless of the possible chemical reactions that could follow.

They just said they were doing what they were told to do, he said.
